Process Post #10 - Plans for Transmedia Integration

April 03, 2025

What are my plans for integrating across the boundaries of internet domains and platforms? At this stage, none. But not exactly. My main issue is that I don't use my social media for the same purposes of curating or networking: they aren't designed to be public or represent my thoughts in the same way. The way I use my web presence here is also not conducive to the same actions and interactions afforded on social media. To me it does not make sense to federate my content from here to other platforms, although it could be nice to have, say my instagram feed, posted here under a specific 'micro-blog' tag in the future. It also doesn't yet make sense for me to add these integrations due to the larger technical overhead. being a self-coded static site, the work to develop the deployment workflows doesn't justify itself.

So my transmedia integrations planned are limited in scope and currently don't cross the boundary away from the personal web space. In the short-term I want to build a simple API widget that allows me to insert a simple 'like' button on my pages that will be tracked on a public, simple, GitHub repo. This gives some audience interaction without massive overhead. In the long-term I will add webmentions to notify sites when I link to them, and begin to integrate with the existing IndieWeb community. Though not all sites support this, it will help to increase visibility and connectedness, bringing viewers to my page as well as potential personal connections. So in short, no integrations as described in class; but its not that simple.
